Necessary equipment : 1 multimeter able to measure electrical resistance
Goals : check the electrical connection between the POD600 and converter, check the relay wiring.
-> This test has to be done with the Relay ON (production mode) and then with the Relay OFF (no
production mode). As there are 3 phases and 2 relay modes, there will be 3x2=6 measures to be
done.
→ This test has to be done with the boat stopped (anchorage or marina)
Step 1 : Check that the hydrogenerator is connected to the boat 3- phases line.
Step 2 : Disconnect the 3 phases line at its end, close to the convert.
Step 3 : As there are 4 pin on the connector, one pin of the connector is not connected. Identify the unused pin : its shape is different.
Step 4 : On the 3 other pins used for the 3 phases signal. Measure the resistance (in Ohm) between each pair of phase : 3 phases = 3 measures.
Choose the smaller caliber available on the multimeter - Usually 200Ω -
Measure the value for each pair of phase :
With the switch on ON (production mode)
- Value Phase 1 - Phase 2 :
- Value Phase 2 - Phase 3 :
- Value Phase 1 - Phase 3 :
With the switch on OFF (production mode)
- Value Phase 1 - Phase 2 :
- Value Phase 2 - Phase 3 :
- Value Phase 1 - Phase 3 :
In production mode :
Values should be between 1,3Ω and 2,5Ω. A higher value means there is an issue on the electrical continuity between the generator and convert (damaged cable, corroded or unscrewed connector...). A low value (<1Ω) means there is a short between 2 phases (sea water in a connector ...)
